pragmatic and social skills
Building meaningful communication and connections
Pragmatic, or social, language skills involve how we use language to interact with others. These skills help children understand social rules, take turns in conversation, stay on topic, interpret nonverbal cues, and adjust language for different people and situations.
When social communication skills are challenging, children may struggle to make friends, participate in group activities, or navigate classroom and everyday interactions.
How can speech therapy help?
Our speech-language pathologists support children by providing individualized and evidence-based therapy to:
Teach conversational skills such as initiating, maintaining, and ending conversations
Improve understanding of social cues, body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions
Support perspective-taking, problem-solving, and flexible thinking
Practice appropriate language for different settings (home, school, community)
Our goal is to help children build confidence, develop meaningful relationships, and use communication skills successfully in everyday life.
